  32. + a few months ago a program aired on American television on the
  33. +subject of abductions. One of the three segments centered on a case
  34. +involving a police officer in Yorkshire by the name of Alan Godfrey. I
  35. +wondered if you were familiar with this case, and how it is regarded in
  36. +the UK. It seemed a very interesting case on this end, but I had never
  37. +heard of it before.

  39. I heard about the programme when I was at Leo Sprinkle's conference in
  40. Laramie. Several people mentioned it to me and remarked how good it was.
  41. If it is the same programme I am thinking of there were two other segments
  42. which were Betty and Barney Hill and Travis Walton.

  44. The Alan Godfrey case is featured extensively in a book called the
  45. Pennine UFO Mystery by Jenny Randles, published around 1983. Basically
  46. early one morning Alan was patrolling in his car near Todmorden in
  47. Yorkshire. He came across a large UFO with what he described (I am
  48. working from memory here) as a series of windows across the middle.
  49. When he arrived back at the Police Station he appeared to have been
  50. away around 15minutes longer than he expected. He described a circular
  51. dry patch (on the wet road) just below where the UFO hovered.

  53. At some point Alan was hypnotised. I can not remember what information
  54. he came out with but recollect that it added something to his story. I
  55. do remember seeing Alan on a couple of TV programmes where he said that
  56. he could only vouch for the information he recalled without hypnosis. So
  57. if he is not entirely happy with the hypnosis information we would be
  58. better disregarding it. (perhaps that's why I cannot remember what came 
  59. out.)

  61. The case has been somewhat controversial. Steuart Campbell has attempted
  62. to explain it as some form of mirage. Jenny Randles has put forward a
  63. form of the plasma vortex as a solution. One suggestion I have heard is
  64. that, possibly as a result of working many night shifts, Alan suffered
  65. from narcolepsy (cat napping) and that the incident was part of this. I
  66. do not know if anybody has run any of these solutions past Alan.

  68. There were a couple of other UFO reports from Yorkshire that same night.
